Third-year students from Rumginae School of Nursing are gaining hands-on experience during their practical placement at Daru Provincial Hospital.

Principal Mr Amos Kupaloma shared an update on their time in the hospital’s operating theatre. The students assisted Dr Kombokon and the theatre team during a total abdominal hysterectomy, a major operation to remove the uterus.

Learning with the theatre team

The long operation gave the students valuable exposure to surgical nursing. They worked alongside the theatre nurses and took part in scrubbing for the procedure under supervision.

The experience helped build confidence. A reflection shared in the Principal’s update expressed gratitude for this opportunity:

“God gave me confidence to scrub well with the theatre nurses.”

More opportunities to learn

At the time of the update, the students had a couple of weeks left in their placement. This gives them more time to learn from the hospital staff and put their classroom learning into practice.

Rumginae School of Nursing thanks Dr Kombokon and the Daru Provincial Hospital theatre team for helping the students learn and grow as future nurses.
